Qualities of PreachFor America Fellows
Character. Competence. Chemistry.
At the PreachFor Foundation, we believe that pastoral excellence grows from the integration of three essential dimensions—Character, Competence, and Chemistry. Each defines not only what a Fellow knows and can do, but who they are becoming in Christ and how they relate to others. The PreachFor America Fellowship seeks individuals who demonstrate integrity of heart, skill in leadership, and grace in community.
Character
Fellows are defined by who they are when no one is watching. Their moral center, authenticity, and devotion shape every relationship and decision.
Integrity — Acts with honesty, humility, and authenticity in all settings.
Courage — Stands for truth even when costly.
Teachability — Welcomes feedback and learns from mentors and peers.
Compassion — Attends to the pain of others with pastoral sensitivity.
Faithfulness — Demonstrates consistent devotion to Christ and community.
Competence
Fellows embody excellence through disciplined skill and practical wisdom. They translate vision into faithful action.
Relational Intelligence — Builds trust across differences and navigates conflict wisely.
Leadership & Vision — Articulates and pursues a vision for renewal in the Church.
Intellectual Clarity — Thinks with curiosity, depth, and coherence.
Theological Depth — Integrates doctrine, culture, and mission thoughtfully.
Organizational Awareness — Understands systems, stewardship, and collaboration.
Preaching & Communication — Interprets Scripture compellingly for public hearing.
Chemistry
Fellows thrive when they cultivate a relational posture marked by grace, joy, and trust. Chemistry is the “relational glue” that makes ministry life-giving.
Empathic Presence — Listens deeply, attends without judgment, and helps others feel seen and heard.
Emotional Maturity — Maintains a non-reactive, grounded presence; owns mistakes and resists gossip or comparison.
Humility & Teachability — Invites feedback and grows through honest reflection.
Hopeful Disposition — Sees possibilities, radiates encouragement, and inspires faith in others.
Integrity of Word & Deed — Lives consistently in public and private, honoring commitments and confidentiality.
Playful Resilience — Brings humor, perspective, and joy into the challenges of ministry.
Successful Fellows will grow in confidence and clarity of call, developing as pastors or lay leaders who can lead renewal in diverse congregations and represent the PreachFor Foundation with distinction in both ministry and public life.
